Looking for some tips on improving your youth sports fundraising? Every youth sports league must fundraise to cover expenses and keep fees low. So, how do you raise more funds? Focus on these seven factors and you can easily double your results.
In youth sports fundraising, it's so important to select the right products to sell. The right selection is one that has mass appeal, an above average price point, and good profit margins.
Don't sell what's always been sold every year. Consider choosing items that meet the criteria below.
Product Price Point
Your product offering should be at an attractive price point. This means it should be neither high nor low, but rather right in the comfort zone that encourages people to open their wallets.
If you're selling a low-priced product, you are at a disadvantage because you aren't maximizing your revenue from each prospect. In this situation, try bundling a small quantity together and ask for more dollars.
For example, if candy bars are being sold for $1 each, put together variety three-packs or a family ten-pack. Get your prospect thinking bigger numbers. Many of them will step up to the bundle.
It's important that your fundraising product has a high profit margin. Ideally, you'd like to make 80% or more if you can. This would be products like discount cards for two-for-one deals at fast food places.
Many standard items have a profit margin of 50% and that's OK. It just means that you'll have to pump up the volume to make the same net that you would with higher profit items.
If the product chosen is one with a lower profit range of say 40%, then it needs to either be a higher-priced item or it needs to be likely to inspire quantity orders from each prospect. For example, cookie dough is often in this range, but price points are $10 & up. Many families will buy two or three units.
Don't send your sellers out unprepared. Part of youth sports is teaching and helping kids with their sales skills goes a long way toward building self confidence.
Here's what to tell them:
1 - Make eye contact, smile and introduce yourself.
2 - Say one sentence about why you are raising funds.
3 - Say second sentence that asks for their help.
4 - Make sure that sentence includes the word "because".
5 - Extend sample item, catalog, or order sheet.
6 - Suggest a personal favorite item or bundle.
7 - Always ask for the order.
Prospect, Prospect, Prospect
Now that your kids know what to say, they have to have prospects for their sales pitch. You can't set sales records without having a large supply of prospective customers.
Have everyone make a list of their potential customers. Have them do it as a team exercise and make sure they write them down. It's very important to do this and to have each seller commit publicly to doing their part.
Have each seller stand up in front of their teammates and state how many prospects they have. Then have them make a commitment to raising a certain financial amount. Set minimum amounts and encourage competition by offering prizes for various achievement levels.
Location, Location, Location
Another way to boost your youth sports fundraising is by going where the prospects are. Your group can reach incredible numbers of people just by setting up fundraiser sales tables at entrances to high-traffic retail locations.
Grocery stores, home improvement stores, and mass merchandisers are all places where hundreds of prospects are available. Get permission well in advance from the store manager.
Set up a small table to display your fundraising product items. Staff your spot with two adults and two kids for each 90-minute shift.
Decorate the area with league banners and large-lettered signs explaining your offer. Your signs must inform them well in advance of reaching your display and sales table. That way, those interested in helping your sports team will be primed to stop and will be more receptive to hearing each youth's sales pitch.

Imagine how many potential prospects there are at those locations who are completely outside your normal range of contacts. Now, go out there and sell them something!
Always make raising funds fun for the kids. Their emotions are subconsciously communicated to each potential prospect.
If they are smiling while cheerfully communicating your team's need and asking for help, then chances are good they'll get a favorable response.
If they're looking down and mumbling some garbled sales spiel, then chances are more people will pass on the offer. The way to get them involved is to have some competition going, have some fun activities built around the process, and have some rewards waiting for success.
For example, post a list at each team practice of the top sellers. Everybody loves to be recognized!
Do a fun activity just for those who help out by working the retail location sales table. Take the participants bowling or to a batting cage or a golf driving range. It'll bond fathers and sons and encourage increased participation.
Have a rewards party after the fundraiser wraps up. A simple pizza party or group picnic is sufficient. Just make sure that everyone gets recognized for pitching in.
Allow the kids time to run around and enjoy themselves. After all, isn't youth sports all about having fun?

So you have made it through the club's tournament season. You did well but not as well as you would like. So how do you get your game in shape for the 2008 tournament season? Your tournaments will not have grand stands and TV cameras but do not think you will not feel the pressure. With a little thought and preparation, you can give yourself the needed confidence to beat your archrival, win the Club Championship or Match Play tournament in 2008.
Granted with your tournament nerves, you are probably not going to be swinging as smooth as Ernie Els when the big day arrives. Now is NOT the time to start messing with your golf swing. I repeat. It is NOT the time to make any major golf swing changes. First of all this is supposed to be fun. You know, better than anyone, your own tendencies. Depending on how much time you have before your golf tournament, chances are you are going to have to find a way to play with what you got. This is fine. Most of these types of tournaments are flighted. This means players with similar handicaps are pitted against each other. What you can do is check your basics. Review your posture, grip, alignment, and ball position and insure they are in the best shape they can be for your game. Hitting balls is fine but do not go overboard on making changes. The most effective thing you can work on is your swing tempo and insuring that your golf swing is in balance. You can do this by simply counting to three once you finish your golf swing.
Since the average of greens hit in regulation on the PGA Tour is only twelve, you will miss some greens during your round. Set up a practice schedule for your short game up until the golf tournament. You can go out in the evenings when the course is quiet. Go from green to green hitting multiple pitch and chip shots from all around the green. In addition, choose a couple of "nasty" lies just in case you hit a good shot that ends up in a bad place. Although the ultimate goal is to hole the ball, sometime you may need to play away from the hole to be able to make the next shot easier.
Spend most of your time on the practice green working on short putts, very short putts. Hit as many two to three foot putts as you can. This does a couple of things for you. First it gives you confidence to see the ball go in the hole over and over again. Second, you will be able to see if you are starting the golf ball on the correct line.
Do not forget to take a look at your equipment. Are your grips in good shape? Do they need replaced? If your grips do not need to be replaced, scrub them vigorously with a stiff brush. Use a solution of warm water and dishwashing soap with a degreaser to clean your grips. The degreaser will help remove the oil and dirt buildup that accumulates from your hands over a period of time. Rinse your grips well and pat dry with a towel.
Tournament day is here! Go through your normal warm up. Hit a few pitches, and make sure before you leave the practice green you make about five or ten two footers in a row. Seeing and hearing the ball go in the hole will give you great confidence as you head to the golf course.

Wrestling is admired for many reasons. It can be a fun game or a serious win-or-lose competition, a commercial profit-making interest or a way to gain status. This is a weapon-free game, and the human body is used as weapon of combat.
There are different styles of wrestling. The main division is between amateur and professional wrestling. Amateur is widespread worldwide and has two types in the Olympic Games—Greco-Roman and freestyle. Freestyle evolved from the English Lancashire form. A similar style is called collegiate or folk style, and practiced in high schools and colleges in the U.S.A.
In amateur, freestyle and Greco-Roman differ in what holds are permitted. In Greco-Roman wrestling, wrestlers are permitted to hold and attack only above the waist. But points can be scored in both by following actions-takedowns, reversals, escapes, exposure, lifting and penalty points. A match can be won by period format, win by fall, win by technical fall, win by decision, win by major decision, and also win by injury. Illegal moves in amateur wrestling include biting, pinching and poking with the fingers, strikes, joint attacks, chokes, strangulations, suffocating, spiking, and attacking the genitals.
The most coveted wrestling trophies are those of the Olympic Games. The countries with leading wrestlers in the Olympic Games are Iran, U.S., Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Sweden, Finland, Turkey and the former Soviet states. In the United States, collegiate or scholastic wrestling is practiced as a school sport. The Dan Hodge Trophy is awarded to the outstanding College Wrestler of the Year. It was first awarded to T. J. Jaworsky of the University of North Carolina in 1995. The trophy is named after Danny Hodge, an outstanding wrestler from the University of Oklahoma from 1951-1954.
Professional wrestling is any tourney where wrestlers receive payments for participating. Historically, professional wrestling has involved matches with predetermined results. American professional wrestling is a performance art in which the wrestlers create an entertainment show by simulating a combat sport. Though it started as a sporting event, it dropped all pretensions of such and declared itself to be a purely entertaining starting with the World Wrestling Federation in the 1990s. It eventually changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment.
Whether to entertain or amuse, wrestling trophies are sought after as they represent awards for fitness, agility and strength.

Once your retail store is up and running, it can be all too easy to slip into a mundane routine of your regular end of season merchandise clear-out sales. You need to take charge and keep your retail business from becoming a stagnant lag of the same old sales. People are drawn to excitement. Shoppers are drawn to promotions and enticing events. If you've fallen victim to the marketing mundane, read on for tips to take advantage of every promotional opportunity that is available to you.
The first step is to create a calendar of events for your store's year. Research your area and find out what's going on around town. Is there a special concert, festival or athletic event? Charity events and holidays, races and local celebrations, the possibilities are endless. Schedule your promotional launches well in advance so that you can have a successful presentation. You'll need to order special promotional materials such as signage, store displays, store fixtures and maybe even lighting for your store front windows. Figure out how many events you want to plan for the year and set a budget for each.
A promotional event is different than a regular sale. The idea is to have a theme. Promote the items that relate to the theme during each event. Keep track of all of your information. Think about making a special file for each event on your calendar. Note what items you ordered more of, which promotional materials you used and even what items you used in your window displays. Write down your projections of sales and customer traffic. When the promotion is over, take note of what worked. Compare your projected sales with your actual sales. Take down which promotional items seemed to work the best and draw the most attention. With each event that you hold, you can refer back to past events to determine how much you think you will sell, which promotional products to order and which items you should stock up on.
Check for new events that may be happening in your area three to four months in advance and take advantage of each opportunity that presents itself. When the year is over, go back over the findings, successes and failures of each event and plan your calendar for the next year. Each year should get cheaper if you keep your store displays and left-over promotional materials from each event in storage. You should waste less and gain more from year to year. Fine tune your promotional marketing plan to best suit your needs. You'll keep the public interested in your store and reap the benefits year round.
